PROFESSIONAL WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS (PWP)
Founded in 1975 by Danielle Hayes and Dianora Niccolini, is a non-profit organization based in New York whose aim is to promote their members’ work.
Female photographers collective active in the Middle East, Rawiya, meaning She who tells a story, was founded by Myriam Abdelaziz, Tamara Abdul Hadi, Dalia Khamissy, Laura Boushnak, Tanya Habjouqa and Newska Tavakolian. Their work pushes both East and West to think about their own stereotypes with the extent to redressing the way in which the world looks at the Middle West.
Founded in 2014 by Anglo-American journalist Amie Ferris Rotman, its aims is to sustain and form afghan women operating in the communication field.
S.O.F.I.A. – Society of Females in Art
Founded in 2014 in Toronto by photographers and artists Regina Garcia, Kerry Shaw, Raina Kirn, May Truong, Anya Chibis, Angela Lewis, Michelle Yee and Broke Wedlock, aims to promote members’ work with initiatives such as exhibits.
Founded by Petra Collins, is an international platform of joung female artists (many of them are photographers or use photography as media) showcasing individual and collaborative projects such as the book Babe, published in 2015 by Random House.
Founded by german photographer Nicole Struppert, its aim is to give female photographers a platform to show their work, inspire and encourage them on their journey as a photographer.
Founded in 2008 by 2 photographers: Amy Elkins and Cara Phillips, has a website where many women photograpghers’ work is shown. Sponsored by Brooklyn Art Council, collaborates with Aperture Foundation, LACMA, MoCP, Lesile Tonkonow, Lightwork, P.P.O.W. Gallery and Humble Arts Foundation, only to name a few. Since 2009 it established a competition together with Kodak and LTI/Lightside Photographic to sustain their projects.
WOMEN IN PHOTOGRAPHY INTERNATIONAL (WIPI)
Founded in 1981 by Thea Litsios, Orah Moore, Carrie Mae Weems, Margaret Grundstein and Mary McNally to give value to women photographers, since 2000, thanks to President Jean Ferro, has an extensive website. Moreover since 2016 all digital and paper documents and Charter Members’ archives were acquired by Yale University and settled in WIPI Archive at Beinecke Library.
Founded by documentary photographer Daniella Zalcman, is an initiative working to elevate the voices of female, female-identifying, and non-binary visual journalists. It has a rich website with links to more than 400 international women photographers’ websites and a list of women photographers organizations. All women photographers with more than 5 years experience can join; every year they organize grants for women photographers.
